A not for profit organization dedicated to maintenance of the San Joaquin River watershed by working with public land owners, educational groups, and individual volunteers, on public lands to educate the public on environmental issues concerning the San Joaquin River watershed.
At River Tree, we lead efforts to preserve and enhance the San Joaquin River and its surrounding areas through a variety of initiatives. We sponsor river and public property cleanups, organize canoe trips and hikes along the river, and oversee several restoration projects aimed at revitalizing its natural habitat. Additionally, we actively participate in Fresno City’s Adopt-A-Park program, focusing on maintaining the River Bottom Park Trail.
Our activities extend to invasive weed and graffiti removal, contributing to the cleanliness and aesthetics of our community spaces. Notably, River Tree has removed 8,444 tires and approximately 32 tons of trash, primarily from abandoned homeless camps along the San Joaquin River. We continue to average about 150 tire removals annually, reflecting our ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship.
Furthermore, we play a pivotal role in the development of the San Joaquin River Trail from Lake Millerton to Reds Meadow, spanning 75 miles. Our involvement also includes the construction of the Small Fry Trail at the Friant Fish Hatchery, enhancing recreational opportunities and promoting conservation awareness throughout our region.
